The mold assessment is a detailed report outlining all procedures and corrections that must be taken to remediate your mold problem and prevent mold from returning. When you hire a licensed mold remediation company they will need a mold assessment to perform the remediation. The mold assessor aka mold inspector provides a mold assessment (the how to) and the remediators follow the mold assessment and remediate the mold and correct the ventilation and or moisture issues stated in the mold assessment that we provice.

 

 As per the Department of Labor NY law, the mold assessment must be followed precisely.

 

This mold assessment will describe what will take place from beginning of the mold remediation job to the end. It will include a list of equipment and chemicals used, the areas that contain mold and an approximate cost of the mold remediation. The Mold remediation company will be responsible for carrying out the steps descriebd in the mold assessment. . After the mold remediation is complete Schenectady Mold Assesssors will return to the site to inspect the mold remediation progess.

Can my Mold Remediation Contractor Perform a Mold Assessment?

​

 

In the state of New York, a licensed mold assessment contractor must conduct all mold assessments. This law went into effect January 1, 2016. Mold Remediators remediate and . Mold Assessors provide a remediation plan that the mold remediators will follow. It is illegal for a home inspector, contractor of any trade or any other professional to provide an assessment that is not a New York State licensed mold assessor.

What is a Mold Assessment?

A mold assessment is a detailed document that provides the information needed to remediate the mold and prevent the mold from coming back. Once the cause of mold for example moisture and or lack of ventilation is identified a mold remediation plan is created. This mold assessment and remediation plan involves detailed step by step requirements to remediate the mold and prevent the mold from returning.

Is a Mold Test Performed?

During the mold assessment, the assessor tyically does not perform a mold test or sampling. Reason being a visual inspection can identify whether the substance in question is mold or not. Mold assessors are trained to look at the pattern, shape and color. In limited instances is testing required. Testing is usually performed if the visual inspection cannot identify mold and or if the mold is blending in with other substances for example soot from a oil fired boiler.

What if Mold Test is Performed. What Happens Next?

After the surface sample is collected the mold sample  is sent to a lab for testing.

 This sampling is captured with a tape test or swab. Typically a mold sample test is not necessary.

What happens AFTER a Mold Assessment is Performed?

​

The mold assessment, or mold remediation plan, will be sent via email to the client. If the property owner decides to move forward with the mold remediation, a copy of the plan will need to be provided to the licensed mold remediation contractor.

​

The New York State law does not require that you carry out the mold remediation. The owner is not mandated to perform hire a mold remediation company to remediate the mold. However, if the owner does decide to move forwawrd, the law does require that a NYS licensed mold remediation contractor perform the mold remediation.
